  • How may I make a donation?

    The Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission (BSITFC), is a state agency funded by a surcharge on driving under the influence of alcohol or drug convictions in Georgia. The BSITFC may also solicit funds or participate in fund-raising activities from the general public. BSITFC is authorized to accept, in its sole discretion, donations to support its mission. O.C.G.A. § 15-21-147.

  • How may I make a donation?

    Donation checks or money orders should be made payable to the “Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission” and sent to:

    A donation letter should be sent along with the check or money order indicating that the donation is to be used to support the mission of the BSITFC. BSITFC acknowledges all donations with a letter to the donor if the name and address of the donor are provided. Electronic donations will likewise receive an acknowledgement letter.

  • May I make a donation in memory or in honor of a person?

    Yes, donations may be made in memory or in honor of a person. Your accompanying letter should include the name of the person who is being remembered or honored, as well as the name(s) and address(es) of the individual(s) (for example, honoree, spouse or family member) you would like to be notified of the donation. BSITFC will not include the amount of your donation in the letter of notification

  • May I include a bequest to BSITFC in my will?

    If you are considering leaving money to the BSITFC in your will, please provide the address of the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission in the will and indicate that the bequest is to be used to support the mission of the BSITFC.

  • How are donations used?

    Donations are deposited in the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund (“Trust Fund”) and used for disbursements to Georgia residents with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. The number of disbursements made from the Trust Fund vary from year to year depending on the number and nature of disbursement requests received from applicants.

  • Can donations be made for a specific type program other than disbursement funding?

    No, donations are not earmarked for specific BSITFC programs when deposited into the Trust Fund. Donations are used for all activities within the mission of the BSITFC.

  • Are donations deductible on my income tax?

    Yes, donations made to BSITFC are tax deductible as charitable contributions under section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. If you are considering a donation, however, you should consult with your tax advisor.
